On 1st March 2024, five women representing RWC attended AusIMM’s International Women’s Day Event Series in Sydney. The event series welcomed over 2,700 delegates across Australia to join in the conversation surrounding diversity, equity and inclusion in the resources workforce and sharing our commitment for
#DrivingPositiveChangeTogether.
Our team were extremely enlightened and inspired by the event, which hosted multiple guest speakers and highlighted the work of three Series Ambassadors, as a group of exceptional women in mining dedicated to championing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the resources sector.
The keynote speaker for the Sydney event, Marlee Silva, captivated the audience by sharing her personal experiences of working in a male-dominated industry and provided insights on how we can collectively shape a better future. We also heard from the Hon. Courtney Houssos, the first female minister for Finance and Natural Resources in NSW, Nicole Brook, the AusIMM president and Stephen Durkin, the CEO of AusIMM.
Nicole and Stephen shared AusIMM’s commitment to empowering all people in the resources sector and advancing diversity and inclusion through advocacy and education. One of their key actions is a Diversity and Inclusion Survey, which conducts research into the experience of people in the resource sector, and provides valuable insight into challenges and opportunities within the industry in order to drive positive change.
Following the event, our team members shared insights and experiences with the rest of the RWC business, which prompted an interesting discussion on how we as a company can improve awareness for the challenges facing women in the resource industry.
The team attending were grateful to have been part of the 2024 event, joining in to celebrate women in the resources sector and network with our industry peers. We hope to continue our attendance at the event in the future.
