Summary

For more than 41 years, R.W. Corkery & Co. has assisted Austral Bricks to manage its exploration activities within NSW. The exploration activities principally focussed on identifying and securing suitable clay/shale resources within Western Sydney and the Southern Highlands suitable for brick manufacture. Our extensive experience and knowledge of geology and the planning and environmental constraints within the Greater Sydney Region has allowed us to identify numerous suitable target resource areas, whilst also managing drilling programs and assisting in the preparation of subsequent environmental documentation required to support a development application.

Background

Austral Bricks engaged R.W. Corkery & Co. to manage an exploration drilling and sampling program at its Horsley Park property in Western Sydney. As part of this program, R.W. Corkery & Co. were tasked to prepare a resource assessment based on the results of this drilling and sampling program. Specific activities included the following.

Identification of optimal drill hole locations based on a review of the geological mapping, aerial photography and site inspection.
Preparation of relevant documentation including “ESF4 Application to Conduct Exploration Activities” and “DPIE – Water Drilling notification”.
Management of the drilling program, including engagement and ongoing management of the drill contractor.
Engagement of a hydrogeologist to supervise the installation of piezometers for ongoing groundwater monitoring.
Management of a geological sampling program including drill chip logging to identify intersected lithology and subsequent testing for fired colour / ceramic properties.
Preparation of a Resource Assessment to provide an estimate of raw material quantities to support a Mining Lease Application.

Solution

Due to our extensive experience, R.W. Corkery & Co. were able to effectively:

Ensure that all compliance requirements were met during exploration activities
Identify significant raw materials suitable for use in brick production including the provision of a detailed breakdown of fired colour and ceramic properties
Prepare and submit a Mining Lease Application for approval by Mining, Exploration and Geoscience.
