Dargues Gold Mine – Modification 5 Approved

We are pleased to announce that Modification 5 (MOD 5) to the Dargues Gold Mine was approved by the NSW Department of Planning and Environment on 20 December 2022. The Modification Report supporting this application was prepared by RWC on behalf of Big Island Mining Pty Ltd and submitted in August 2022.

MOD 5 permits:

• the construction of a 180ML Water Storage Dam for the storage of supernatant water for the Tailings Storage Facility;
• an increase in the production rate from 355,000t to 415,000t per annum;
• the emergency trucking of water to the Mine Site; and
• various administrative amendments reflecting changes to the Mine Site layout since the commencement of mining operations.

This modification will enable Big Island Mining Pty Ltd to minimise potential environmental risks associated with the project whilst maximising the efficiency of mining activities and tailings management operations on site. Additionally, MOD 5 will clarify approved transportation operations associated with the project and regularise the development consent to ensure that the approved project site layout reflects current activities at the mine.
