Kandos Quarry – Approval for Extraction from the Western Overburden Emplacement

RWC is pleased to announce that the Western Regional Planning Panel has approved development consent DA0010/2020 for the extraction of material from the Western Overburden Emplacement at Kandos Quarry, which is located approximately 5km west of Kandos in the Mid-Western Regional local government area.
Kandos Quarry is part of the former Carwell Creek Limestone Mine, which operated from 1911 until 2011 when the former owner, Cement Australia Pty Ltd, placed the operation on care and maintenance. Kandos Operations Pty Ltd acquired the Project in December 2014.
The Western Overburden Emplacement contains material extracted from the western side of the former No. 2 Mine, which consists of shale, claystone, tuff, quartzite and minor limestone. This material will be processed to produce aggregates suitable for use as concrete and sealing aggregates, as well as crushed rock products for use in road and rail construction, stabilisation and drainage works, for markets within the Central West of NSW and metropolitan Sydney.
The anticipated extraction rate will average between 125 000tpa and 150 000tpa for a period of up to 30 years. A combination of semi-trailers, rigid trucks, truck and dogs and other vehicles will be used for product transportation via the Site Access Road, Quarry Road and Bylong Valley Way. The southern end of Quarry Road will be realigned with an upgraded intersection at Bylong Valley Way, to ensure road safety.
At the completion of extraction, the footprint of the Western Overburden Emplacement will be re-profiled and re-vegetated into a land-form that is consistent with the surrounding land-form and vegetation communities.
