Hanson’s Brandy Hill Quarry receives approval from Independent Planning Commission

RWC congratulates Hanson on receiving approval for the ongoing operation of the Brandy Hill Quarry in Seaham, NSW. The approval provides for production of 1.5 million tonnes of hard rock material per annum, concrete recycling and the eventual development of a concrete batching plant. The Quarry will be an important source of material for the Hunter, Central Coast and Sydney markets for many years to come. The Quarry is also located in a region that is undergoing residential development, as the predominantly rural areas around Raymond Terrace are targeted for subdivision and urban growth. The quarry will provide an essential source of extractive materials to support local development, along with economic and supplementary benefits.
RWC prepared the response to submissions reporting for the Project and assisted Hanson to negotiate the changing demographics and community fears concerning the operations and transportation activities. Hanson focused a lot of effort into engaging with the community, with the Project an excellent example of modern Quarry development that mitigates not just for potential intrusive impacts but also the potential for social amenity impacts.
Ultimately the Project will balance an efficient operation with responsible social and environmental management. The application was determined by the Independent Planning Commission with strict conditions relating to operating hours and requiring the provision of agreed public infrastructure prior to any increase to production levels.
The Quarry is strategically important for Hanson, and RWC is proud to have been involved in the application and its approval.
